Hillsdale College is a small, Christian, classical liberal arts college in southern Michigan that operates independently of government funding. Our students come from nearly all of the United States and a dozen foreign countries, and drawn to the challenge of a Hillsdale education, they grow in heart and mind by studying timeless truths in a supportive community dedicated to the highest things.

Hillsdale is a selective, co-educational college of liberal arts for approximately 1,400 students. Fully accredited, it graduates students with the degree of bachelor of arts or bachelor of science and prepares them for graduate study, for professional schools, for teaching, and for many vocational and cultural pursuits.

Hillsdale’s founders opened the doors to all, regardless of race or religion, in 1844. It was the first college in Michigan, and the second in the United States, to admit women on par with men. Its mission is to provide all who wish to learn the education necessary to preserve the civil and religious liberties of America. The founders of Hillsdale College understood, like the founders of our great nation, that free government requires independent, virtuous, and knowledgeable citizens.

In 2011 Hillsdale launched its online courses program to extend this mission and to teach the core subjects of a Hillsdale education free of charge. Since that time, more than 2.6 million Americans have partnered with us in this effort.

Our courses are created for every American who wishes to embark upon a life-changing education in the greatest ideas and texts of Western Civilization. The only requirements are a desire for truth and a love of liberty.

A Lifetime of Learning

Hillsdale's free online courses feature lectures from top Hillsdale College professors. The lecture videos are supported by quizzes, readings, supplementary videos, study guides, and discussion boards.

Our online courses are inspired by Hillsdale College's core curriculum—which accounts for one-half of our undergraduate education. These not-for-credit courses are self-paced so that our online course students can pursue their education at their own leisure. They provide a coherent citizen's education in the liberal arts, which pursues high learning, teaches the Christian faith, forms character, and defends freedom.
